Article Floor Forum: Rotary sanders
In issue 151-2021 of the trade magazine Floor Forum, the file "Sanding machines: the possibilities of rotary sanding machines are in full evolution" was discussed. Our range consists of a wide range of (sanding) machines, so that there is always a suitable machine for every type of project!
The Sanding Machines file fits in well with our products, knowledge and experience. That is why Jeroen van Oversteeg, together with the editors of Floor Forum, has written a nice article in which the machines, future expectations and of course our 40th anniversary are discussed.

When it comes to machines, there is a good chance that you will end up with the Dutch company Overmat Industries BV. Managing director Jeroen van Oversteeg and his company supply quite a few rotary sanders to the parquet world, which we specifically discuss in this article. After we first take a quick detour to situate the other machines, machines that the company recently showed during Matexpo in Kortrijk.
“We normally participate in a lot of trade fairs, but unfortunately there was absolutely nothing in the past year and a half due to the pandemic. It was great that we could finally show off at Matexpo again,” says Jeroen van Oversteeg. “The turnout was moderate, perhaps because many people still have reservations about attending mass gatherings, but we still made good contacts. And we were able to demonstrate quite a few machines, such as for sanding concrete floors, for surface preparation, milling machines, strippers and the latest in the range, the introduction of the Conjet, a hydropowered demolition robot, which works up to about 3,000 bar to break concrete into certain milling away constructions.”
Lots on offer
On to the rotary machines. What devices are on offer?
“I think it would be a good idea to go through our range, from small to large. It starts with the single-disc machines, with the well-known Woodboy for 40 years. As most parquet installers know, the Woodboy is a machine that you equip with various drive discs for both surface preparation and fine sanding and polishing of wooden floors, making it multifunctional.”
“In addition, there is the somewhat heavier Repex 4D single-disc machine, which you can equip with various gear-driven drive discs for surface preparation, in combination with diamond segments, or sanding parquet floors with the 4D driven drive plate. In addition, the machine is also used for polishing and polishing oil.”
Both of these devices bring us to Husqvarna's planetary-driven sanders. These are machines that are also known under the former Swedish brand name HTC.
“These work with contra-rotating sanding heads, which guarantees a flat end result. The range starts with the fixed speed Husqvarna PG series, with working widths of 45 and 51 cm. Then it increases with machines with a variable speed, including the Husqvarna HTC DURATIQ™ technology with a working width of 51 cm, increasing to a working width of 95 cm. Depending on the sector in which our customers operate, the right machine is chosen. For example, if you want to save time on large project floors or sports floors, you will work with the larger machines, such as the Husqvarna HTC 950 RX with a working width of 95 cm. You can also equip these machines with various types of diamond segments, abrasive material and pads. Depending on the job, the right segments are chosen.”
The trump card: multi-employability
Then we hear what the big advantage of the rotary sanders is. Their great strength is that they are multifunctional.
“By using the different drive discs, diamond segments or abrasive material, you can use the machines for smooth sanding of cement screed or screed floors, sanding tile floors for good adhesion if parquet needs to be glued, removing old layers of glue and coatings. , sanding parquet and plank floors and brushing in and out of oil. They are all equipped with a floating cover, which ensures that you can sand dust-free or low-dust in combination with the right vacuum cleaner. The big advantage of both the Repex 4D and the planetary-driven sanders from Husqvarna is the enormous time savings you make when sanding from A to Z. In addition, you always have a flat end result. There is really only one drawback. You have to be careful if the wooden floor is dished, in that case you always have to sand the floor first with a traditional belt sander.
What does the future bring, we still want to know…
“We notice that wooden floors, tile floors and textile floor coverings such as PVC and carpet increasingly have to be removed because the floor owner wants to install a new wooden floor. This translates into a strong rise in sales of floor strippers. We distribute the National Flooring Equipment machines with ride-on and walk-behind strippers for this.”
“What we notice is that our suppliers are constantly working on the innovation of diamond segments and abrasive material, so that you can achieve the desired end result faster. This is a very logical evolution, after all, time is money for the parquet installer too! I would also like to add that the parquet installer should not hesitate to contact us for more information about the larger machines. We employ numerous technical people who, in our demonstration room or, if desired, on site, provide explanations and demos for the use of the various machines and how to make the right choice in diamond segments or abrasive materials.”
40th anniversary
Soon Overmat will celebrate its 40th anniversary. What can the parquet installer expect in connection with this anniversary?
“Around the holidays of the end of the year we launch an incentive campaign. Our customers can use this when purchasing machines, Floorservice products, sanding material and other accessories. We still have to put it into a final form, but it is already certain that this will be linked to the amount of the purchase. For example, people will be able to save for a gift, for example an iPhone.”
A year of leaping on Domotex
At the end of the conversation, Jeroen van Oversteeg has another surprise in store. The company was a regular face at Domotex in Hanover for many years, but this year you will look for them in vain.
“We decided at the beginning of October not to participate,” concludes our interlocutor. “Because we are still dealing with the uncertain situation surrounding the development of COVID-19 and the associated lackluster willingness to travel from international visitors, we will not participate in the upcoming edition. We will highlight our Floorservice products and machines at various other appropriate times in 2022, but more on that later.”
